Panacryl Absorbable Sutures

Panacryl Absorbable SuturesPanacryl absorbable sutures are commonly used for stitches to help a patient’s wound heal. These type of sutures are absorbed by the body and do not need to be removed. Panacryl absorbable sutures are used in general soft tissue and orthopedic uses including tendon and ligament repairs and reattachment to bone.

If you think you have a claim involving Panacryl absorbable sutures, call us at (888) 749-5050 or contact us online. We can help you understand your rights and legal options.

Panacryl Recall

The absorbable sutures were introduced to the market in 1999 and were removed in March of 2006, after a voluntary recall by the manufacturer was issued. The consumer notification letter stated that Panacryl sutures’ “unique absorption profile could act as a foreign body”. Surgeons stated that the sutures inhibited healthy tissue growth and in many cases infection was reported at the site of the patient’s wound requiring additional surgeries to remove the infected sutures. In some cases the sutures remain inside the patient’s body for one to two years before granulomas or infections occurred.

The most common complications associated with Panacryl absorbable sutures are infection, spitting sutures (occurs when the body forces the rejected sutures to the surface of the skin), tunneling of the skin around the incision, granulomas (scar tissue buildup under the skin), and failed absorption requiring additional surgery to remove the sutures.

You may have a case. If you or a loved one has used Panacryl Absorbable sutures and suffered side effects please contact our office. Call our helpful professionals at (888) 749-5050 or contact us online to discuss your legal rights and compensation options.
